Pune: Stating that Congress would not tolerate any remark against party president Sonia Gandhi,
Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on October 13 said if Nationalist Congress Party
(NCP) "continued to make disparaging remarks against her, then Congressmen will have to think what to
do".
Talking to reporters after presiding over a meeting to review the water scarcity situation in Pune division,
he said Congressmen would not tolerate any remark against Sonia. However, nobody other than the
Congress high command could decide on the future of the Congress-NCP led Democratic Front (DF)
government, he said.
"Maharashtra has made rapid progress under the DF government. Its economy has improved, more
investments are coming in and the state is prospering rapidly," he said.
On the drought situation prevailing in Pune division, he said the government was making concerted
efforts to mitigate the problem.
He said orders have been issued to fill up the vacant posts in agricultural departments, exemption of
educational fees will continue for the students in drought-affected areas and work under employment
guarantee schemes were being undertaken.
