7 militants killed in JK; infiltration bid foiled

Srinagar: Seven militants were killed in separate overnight encounters in Jammu and Kashmir where an infiltration bid was foiled and a hideout busted, official sources said on October 14.

Three infiltrators belonging to Lashker-e-Toiba were shot dead by Army along the line of control at Gagrian in Poonch district. Two of them have been identified as Abu Hamza and Abu Sayeed, both residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

A jawan was also injured in the encounter, the sources said, adding that three AK rifles, 10 magazines, 370 rounds, handgrenades and Rs 9,000 cash were recovered from them.

Two unidentified militants and a security personnel were killed in another shoot-out in Kalakote sector of Rajouri district. Two AK rifles, six magazines, 120 rounds and a UBGL were recovered from them.

One militant was shot dead in Jugtial area of Kupwara district while bullet-riddled body of a Jaish-e- Mohammad militant, identified as Abdullah Saif of PoK, was recovered from the forest area of Nomblan- Keller in Pulwama district, they said.

Ultras opened fire on a security force camp and clashed with a search party in Kangan area on the outskirts of Srinagar, but there was no report of any casualty.

Border Security Force (BSF) busted a militant hideout at Awhatu in Anantnag recovering five handgrenades, four AK magazines and 211 rounds of AK ammunition. Security forces also recovered UBGL and its grenades, four magazines and 134 rounds during house-to-house searches in Banihal area of Doda.
