Jaya alleges Cong MP abused her in 'filthy' language
Wednesday, October 15 2003 21:18 Hrs (IST)
Chennai: In a new twist to the controversy over the alleged attack by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra
Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers on Mani Shankar Aiyar, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on
October 15 alleged that the Congress MP "abused" her in "filthy and unprintable language" in English
and absolved her partymen of any blame.
Seeking to turn the tables on Aiyar on the attack he alleged was by some AIADMK workers in Vanchur
near Tamil Nadu-Pondicherry border, she said it was "stage managed" to gain political mileage and
public sympathy.
Aiyar and top Tamil Nadu Congress leaders on October 15 met Governor Ramamohan Rao and
demanded "restoration" of law and order and "constitutional" government in the state, failing which the
Centre should action against the state government.
"Only a police investigation will reveal what really transpired. Prematurely condemning AIADMK men
before the results of the investigation are known is both unjust and unfair," she said on the controversy
surrounding the alleged attack on Aiyar after an official function in Nagapattinam.
Aiyar, as MP of the constituency concerned, was present at the function where Jayalalithaa referred to
his sarcastic remarks that he would donate her to the Guruvayoor temple in Kerala like she donated an
elephant. Following her reference, Aiyar went to her, said something and left the dais, after which he
claimed he was attacked in his car by AIADMK workers in nearby Vanchur from where he escaped to
Karaikal in Pondicherry.
