Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on October 17 said his government has successfully passed the "Agni Pariksha" (trial by fire) in the handling of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) programme in Ayodhya and showered praise on the Centre for its help and co-operation to his government.

Addressing a press conference, he brimmed with confidence, saying, "I have been able to successfully meet the challenge posed by the communal and disruptive forces only with the help of the people of the country as a whole and those of Uttar Pradesh and Ayodhya in particular, who totally rejected the call of Sampradayik Shaktyan."

The Chief Minister showered praise on the Centre for constantly remaining in touch with the state government and providing it with all necessary help and co-operation.

"By extending necessary help, the Centre has maintained the true traditions of federal structure of the country," he said.
