Lucknow: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary Praveen Togadia was on October 18 detained at Amausi airport in Lucknow while heading towards Ayodhya to attend a meeting of the outfit there, a top police officer said.

The action came a few hours before the VHP meeting was to begin in the temple town.

Togadia was detained as authorities apprehended his presence in Ayodhya might lead to a law and order problem, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan Verma said.

He said the VHP leader had been kept at the state guest house.
