AIMPLB wants restoration of masjid at Ayodhya
Sunday, October 19 2003 21:09 Hrs (IST)
Patna: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on October 19 demanded reconstruction of a
mosque at the very site where Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992.
''We want the restoration of the masjid at the very site where it existed before it was pulled down 11
years ago'', AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Syed Nizamuddin and other leaders told a press
conference in Patna while responding to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Pramod
Mahajan's assertion that a masjid would not not be allowed to be constructed where already a Ram Lala
temple exists.
The AIMPLB leaders while stating that they would abide by the court's ruling on the title suit on the
Ayodhya dispute said that Mahajan's recent statement in Patna that there
existed a Hindu temple underneath the demolished structure was totally false and not not categorically
stated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
''We dispute the findings of the ASI and Mahajan's appeal to Muslims to forego their claims on the site'',
they asserted.
AIMPLB spokesman S Q R Illiyas said, the Board had submitted it objections to ASI findings before the
Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on October 8 and said since the matter was sub-judice,
nobody had the right to speak about it in public.
