Islamabad: A Pakistani court on October 18 sentenced three militants belonging to a jihadi outfit for 10
years' imprisonment for hatching a conspiracy to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf last year.
The judge of the anti-terrorism court in Karachi, Aley Maqbool Rizvi convicted and sentenced
Mohammed Imran, Mohammed Hanif and Ashraf, alleged activists of Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Almi outfit,
for 10 years' rigorous imprisonment for attempting to kill Musharraf.
The court, however, acquitted two others, including accused Sharib and a police Inspector Wasim
Akhtar, who was also co-accused in the case, for lack of evidence.
The militants attempted to assassinate Musharraf on April 26, 2002, during one of his trips to
Karachi.
According to prosecution, the alleged plot failed as the remote-controlled bomb hidden in car failed to
detonate.
The attorney for the three convicts said he will appeal against the verdict.
