Pak team heads for JK to inspect Baglihar project
Monday, October 20 2003 14:26 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A three-member Pakistani delegation left New Delhi on October 20 for Jammu and Kashmir for an on-the-spot inspection of the Baglihar project on the Indus river.

The team, led by Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters Syed Jamait Ali Shah, would visit the project as per provisions in the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan.

Joint Commissioner (Indus) in the Union Ministry of Water Resources Narinder Kumar said there was no discussion scheduled between the two sides and the Pakistani delegation was in the country only on an inspection tour as per the treaty.

Under the treaty, either side can inspect the projects on a simple request.

The team, which arrived in the country from Wagah border on October 19, would return on October 23, he said.
