China launches its first two satellites
Tuesday, October 21 2003 10:43 Hrs (IST)

Beijing: China on October 21 launched two satellites, including a Sino-Brazilian satellite for detecting earth resources, from the Taiyuan launch centre in the Northern province of Shanxi, the state media reported.

The launch of the Sino-Brazilian joint satellite and a small communication satellite belonging to the China Academy of Sciences took place at 11:16 am (8:46 am IST) using a 'Long March IV B' carrier rocket, Xinhua news agency said.

The lifting off comes after China's first manned space flight, the Shenzhou V, returned safely to earth on October 16 after a 21-hour flight that orbited the earth 14 times.
