5 ultras shot dead in Assam; explosives recovered

Guwahati: The Army in major encounters have shot dead five National Democratic Front of Bodoland
(NDFB) ultras and recovered huge amount of explosives in Assam on October 22.
According to official sources, the Army based on specific information confronted a group of NDFB ultras
near the Barnadi reserve forest of Darrang district.
In the resulting encounter, four NDFB ultras were shot dead while one AK-56 rifle with magazine, 19 live
rounds, two 9 mm revolver with three live rounds, two Chinese grenades and five fired cases of AK-47
rifle were recovered.
In another incident, the troops deployed in neighbouring Bongaigaon district had an encounter with
another group of NDFB ultras at Balamgiri area in which one ultra was killed and one Chinese grenade
and one 7.62 pistol was recovered.
The Army also recovered explosives and ganja from Darrang and Sonitpur districts.
Acting on specific information, the troops raided Mazehube village and recovered 35 kg of explosives
and 1,550 detonators and from Bengenabari village seized 1,200 kg of ganja from two persons.
