POTA: Cong upset at amendment, calls for review
Wednesday, October 22 2003 22:19 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A day after Union Cabinet decided to accord statutory powers to the Central POTA Review Committee, Congress on October 22 expressed dissatisfaction over the "patchwork amendment" and demanded a review of the "draconian" legislation.

"We are opposed to the legislation in principle. What has been offered is 'too little too late'. We don't think a patchwork amendment will do. What is needed is an overhaul, a review of the draconian legislation," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.

He said the government's move has vindicated the Congress position that provisions of POTA would be misused.
