New Delhi: Doordarshan is going ahead with plans to launch its 24-hour News Channel on November
3 "as of now ", as the Election Commission has merely sought some clarifications and has not given any
directions on the issue in view of the coming Assembly polls.
A DD spokesman said that the Commission has only asked for some clarifications from Prasar Bharati
on the launch, but has given "no directions".
Reports had it that the Commission, having received complaints from various quarters, political parties
and stake holders including producers on DD's Metro Channel, on the
timing of the launch, has sought "facts and comments" from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry
and Prasar Bharati.
Union Cabinet cleared the Prasar Bharati's proposal to launch DD News in place of DD Metro on
October 3, three days before the announcement of Assembly polls in five states.
