Musharraf trying to make JK an Islamic issue: Joshi
Wednesday, October 22 2003 14:28 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Attacking General Pervez Musharraf for raking up the Kashmir issue at the Organisation Of Islamic Countries (OIC) summit, Union Minister for Human Resources Development Murali Manohar Joshi on October 22 accused the Pakistan President of embarking on a drive to make it an Islamic issue rather than seeking a resolution through negotiations.

He also said international opinion should be created on the question of India regaining possession of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).

"Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf does not want to resolve the Kashmir issue through negotiation, but instead has now embarged on a drive to make it an Islamic issue", Joshi told reporters in Lucknow.

The minister also accused Pakistan of "reciprocating India's peace initiatives by speeding up terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir".

The recent attack on the house of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed clearly showed that Pakistan is not interested in peace, he said.

Joshi said that the nations of the world have come to a conclusion that Pakistan is the epicentre of terrorism.

He regretted that some nations are lending economic and military assistance to Pakistan despite the fact that it is aiding and abetting terrorism.

Charging such countries with adopting double standards on terrorism, he said "these countries speak of fighting terrorism on the one hand but on the other they do not hesitate in lending economic and military assistance to the country which spreads terrorism".
