Militants kidnap 3 government officials in Manipur

Imphal: Armed militants have kidnapped three government officials including the Deputy Director of
Education department, Shimray from different places in Manipur in the past two days, official sources
said on October 22.
Unconfirmed sources said the militants had also abducted an executive engineer and an assistant
agriculture officer some days ago but police have not received any complaint so
far.
Official sources said suspected members of underground Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) had taken
Shimray at gun point from his quarter at Langol area, late on October 21 night and his whereabouts
were still unknown.
Although the motive behind the abduction was not known, Shimray might have been kidnapped in
connection with the KYKL's 'Operation New Kangleipak' (ONK) under which the ultras said they would
fight against corrupt practices in education department, sources said.
Sources said extremists of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) had also kidnapped programme
manager of the Integrated Co-operative Development programme T. Mani Singh (under co-operation
department) from his house at Lilong area in Thoubal district on October 21.
Sources said details about the kidnapping of Mani Singh and motive behind it was not yet
known.
Sources said suspected members of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) had also kidnapped from his
house a general surgeon of J N Government hospital Achouba Singh who is now under suspension from
service at Khoyathong area.
