Thursday, October 23 2003 09:34 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: At least five persons were killed and 53 others injured when five bogies of a Bangalore- bound train from Mysore jumped off the tracks near Palahalli gate in Karnataka's Mandya district on 23 October morning, a senior police official said.

All the five bodies have been recovered, Mandya district Superintendent of Police R Hitendra told reporters over phone from the accident spot. Two passengers were reported "missing", he said.

Thirteen persons have been shifted to K R Hospital in Mysore, while others suffered minor injuries, he said.

The "Push-Pull" train run for the convenience of daily travellers, mostly office-goers, between Mysore and Bangalore had left the Mysore station at 6 A M, police said.
