Mufti urges parties to respond positively to talks
Thursday, October 23 2003 15:29 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Urging all parties to respond positively to the proposed talks between Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and the Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on October 23 said the people of the state will not tolerate any obstacle in the peace process.

"The offer is another historic opening for restoration of peace and normalcy in the state and it should not be misused," Sayeed said while addressing the first annual day function at National Institute of Technology at Nassembagh in Srinagar.

"I hope all the parties of the state will respond positively to the Centre's offer of talks," he said.

"People of the state, who have witnessed a lot of bloodshed in the past 14 years, are yearning for peace and they will not tolerate anyone becoming an obstacle to the peace process," he said, adding the bloodshed should end.

On the proposal to open Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, the Chief Minister described it as the greatest confidence building measure between India and Pakistan.

"This (opening of the road) will help the divided families across the line of control (LoC) to meet," he added.

Sayeed had earlier called for opening road links across the LoC for enhancing people-to-people contact.
