Peace proposals not offer for talks: India
Thursday, October 23 2003 23:23 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: A day after India unveiled a package of proposals as part of the peace initiative with
Pakistan, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha on October 23 night said that this should not be
viewed as an offer for dialogue with Islamabad.
"The announcements should not be viewed as an offer for talks with Pakistan and this is possible only
after Islamabad assures to put an end to cross-border terrorism," Sinha told Aaj Tak in its "Seedhi
Baath" programme.
He said the announcement was only a continuation of the peace process between the two countries
announced by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in April.
Sinha said that exchange of people between the two countries through the Line of Control should not be
construed as recognition of LoC as international border by India.
He said following some positive response by Pakistan to India's initiative, the government made these
announcements as a continuation of the initiatives by Vajpayee.
"We have not made any proposal for talks between India and Pakistan," Sinha told the channel.
