Pandits against Advani holding talks with Hurriyat
Friday, October 24 2003 14:29 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Panun Kashmir, an organisation of Kashmiri Pandits, on October 24 strongly condemned Centre's decision to appoint Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani for holding talks with separatist Hurriyat Conference chairman Maulana Abbas Ansari.

"Panun Kashmir also condemns all those political parties who have supported this decision," Ashok Pandit, official spokesman of the organisation said.

Advani, who is also in charge of the Home Ministry, would lower the dignity of his office by holding talks with the separatists, Pandit said in a statement.

"We have once again conceded to the demands of the separatists and committed the same mistake time and again," Pandit alleged and urged Advani to refrain from holding talks with the Hurriyat Conference leader.

Referring to Advani's earlier statement that talks can only be possible when the terrorists lay down their arms, he asked, "Where is the stance of the Home Minister gone? We strongly feel that this is again a very big victory of the terrorists."

Pandit, also a noted filmmaker, said Panun Kashmir also strongly condemned the Srinagar- Muzaffarnagar road link. "We fail to understand the attitude of the Union government as on one hand Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was speaking against Pakistan at all forums, things like this happen. Militants can now easily cross borders through these buses," he said.

"Panun Kashmir strongly feels that India had surrendered to Pakistan on the instructions of America...and if this continues why should jawans die at the borders? They should be called back," Pandit said.
