Anti-cola protestors storm PCB office in Kerala
Monday, October 27 2003 18:23 Hrs (IST)

Thiruvananthapuram: A group of Yuva Janata Dal-Secular activists on October 27 stormed the Kerala Pollution Control Board (KPCB) office and poured soft drinks over a top official, accusing him of suppressing reports on pollution caused by multinational soft drink units in the state.

The protestors, as part of their anti-cola stir, sprang a surprise by breaking into the cabin of PCB member secretary K V Indulal, garlanded him with used cola bottles and emptied the contents of a bottle of soft drink over his head, police sources said.

The protestors refused to be pacified by the official's repeated plea to spare him of the ordeal, holding he had submitted the report to the government, the sources said.

Police said seven activists were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
