Hizbul military advisor killed in encounter

Srinagar: A self-styled military advisor of pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), Saif-ul-Rehman Bajwa alias Saiful engineer, was killed in an encounter with police in Srinagar on October 27, a senior police officer said.

Terming the killing of the top militant, a resident of Pakistan, as a "major success" of the police, Director General of Police Gopal Sharma told reporters that acting on a tip-off, local police raided Noorbagh- Palpora area at around 3 AM and asked the hiding militant to surrender.

However, the ultra opened fire and in the ensuing encounter he was killed, Sharma said adding, the slain militant was later identified as military advisor of Hizbul.

One AK rifle, its four magazines, 73 live rounds, a grenade and a wireless set were recovered from the militant, Sharma added.
