Congress violating election code of conduct: BJP
Tuesday, October 28 2003 20:53 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on October 28 accused Congress of violating the model code of conduct for the coming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.

"The Congress is daily violating the code of conduct almost as a rule knowing that it is facing imminent defeat," party spokesman Prakash Javedkar told reporters.

He alleged that in Rajasthan, slogans were being painted on state government public transport buses, which was in blatant violation of the model code.

Asked whether the party would take up the issue with the Election Commission, he said, "We have brought it to the notice of the Commission and now it is up to them to take the necessary action."

He said it appeared as though the Congress had made it their policy to break the election code of conduct.

"The EC has take cognisance of such acts by the Congress. We cannot be bringing these matters to their notice every time," Javdekar said.
