Pak proposal for UN involvement 'meaningless'
Wednesday, October 29 2003 23:01 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Rejecting Pakistan's rider for a UN role in the proposed bus service between Muzzafarabad (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) and Srinagar, Defence Minister George Fernandes today (October 29) described it as a "meaningless" proposal.

"What is the UN going to do on the roads which are meant for the common people? What have they (UN) got to do there? It is meaningless," he told Aaj Tak.

Besides wanting UN officials to man and control the check-points on the Line of Control, Islamabad has also said that people travelling on such a bus service should carry UN documents.
