17 militants surrender in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: Seventeen militants, including four divisional and district commanders, belonging to various
terrorist outfits and hailing from Surankote in Poonch district surrendered on October 29 before the
police and Army authorities, an official spokesman said.
A huge quantity of arms and ammunition, including 17 AK series rifles, two pika machine guns, two
UMGs, two RPGs, one mortar and eight wireless sets were also handed over by the surrenderees, the
spokesman said.
Eight of the surrendered ultras belonged to Tehri-e-Jehad, which included its divisional commander and
two district commanders. Three were from Lashkar-e-Toiba, including a district commander while five
belonged to Jamait-ul-Mujahideen and one to Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami.
General Officer Commanding of 16th Corps, Lt General T P S Brar, and Inspector General Of Police P L
Gupta were among other security and civil officers present at Surankote during the surrender, he
said.
