Chennai: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on October 29 said it would extend support to political
parties in the coming elections to five state Assemblies if they were willing to respect the sentiments of
the Hindus.
VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia told reporters at the Chennai airport, "We will see to it that the
political parties which honoured the Hindu sentiments won the polls and the parties which insulted the
Hindus defeated."
Asked about the ban imposed by police at Madurai for distribution of 'trishul' by him, Togadia said he
had not come for distribution of 'trishul' at Madurai. He was going there on October 30 to participate in
the 'jayanti' function of late Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar.
Late Thevar was not only a leader of the Thevar community, but also a national leader and it was wrong
to say that he was participating in the function to woo the community. There was nothing wrong in
honouring the community, which had defended the country many times, he said.
He reiterated that the Ram temple at Ayodhya would come up at any cost. Muslims should give up their
claim for a mosque at the disputed structure and should withdraw the "title suit" filed by them at the
Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, he said.
