Hyderabad: Top-seeded combine of Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza, and Vishal Uppal and Rushmi
Chakravarthy scored contrasting wins to set up another all-Indian final in the mixed-doubles tennis event
of the Afro-Asian Games today (October 30).
Bhupathi and Sania registered a fluent 6-2 6-2 victory over Adelo Abadio and Czarina Arevalo of
Philippines while Uppal and Rushmi had to quell a strong challenge from Johnny Arcilla and Patricia
Santos, also of Philippines, before scoring a 6-7 (5) 6-4 6-4 win in the semifinals today.
Meanwhile, Asian champion Nisha Millet's new national mark in women's 200m backstroke was the
highlight of India's performance on the final day of aquatics competition, which saw the hosts finish ninth,
without a gold, winning 19 medals.
The hosts' attempt to grab their first gold medal in the competition failed to take shape though Akbar Ali
Mir came close in the men's 200m backstroke. But in the end, Mir settled for a silver.
