GoM accepts TRAI proposal for unified licence
Thursday, October 30 2003 18:04 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The high-powered Group of Ministers (GoM) today decided for bringing in a unified licence regime for the telecom services in the country, a move intended to resolve the ongoing battle between basic and cellular operators on limited mobile services.

The Union Cabinet would consider the recommendations of GoM tomorrow (Oct 31) for a final decision, Communication Minister Arun Shourie told reporters after the meeting of the GoM.

Accepting the proposals of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the GoM also decided to levy additional licence fee for contentious Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) services by basic operators.
