India's peace bid not yielding any result: VHP
Thursday, October 30 2003 17:39 Hrs (IST)

Madurai: India's 12-point peace initiative to Pakistan had not yielded any results and Pakistan-backed terrorists had been firing at Indian troops and citizens till yesterday (October 29) in Jammu and Kashmir, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia said today (October 30).

Asked about the peace initiative, he told reporters that Pakistan's foreign policy was "terrorism "and "jihad" had been its "way". India should respond militarily to Pakistan instead of liberally opening road, rail and air traffic.

He said Indian Government was duty-bound to protect Indian citizens against Pakistan terrorism. But so far the Government had "failed" to protect the citizens, he said.

On reports about misuse of Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and the ordinance to amend the Act brought about by government to prevent the same, he said, "Every law could be misused. There is need to prevent its misuse. It is not only POTA that could be misused, any law for that matter could be misused."

He said he had not received any report of POTA being misused in Tamil Nadu. "If at all there is any misuse, the report will only go to the Centre and not me," he said.

To a question on VHP's stand on next elections, he said VHP was not worried about elections. It was concerned about the future of Hindus.
