Ayodhya trust suggests new solution to tangle
Friday, October 31 2003 22:13 Hrs (IST)
Lucknow: In a fresh initiative to resolve the vexed Ayodhya issue through dialogue between Hindus and
Muslims, the newly formed Ayodhya Jama Masjid Trust (JMT) today (Oct 31) suggested allowing
construction of the Ram temple at the acquired land in Ayodhya in lieu of building a Jama Masjid away
from the disputed area in the temple town.
JMT managing trustee S A A Rizvi also submitted a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh
Yadav, urging him to set up an 'Ayodhya cell' in the state on the lines of a similar set up in the Prime
Minister's Office (PMO) for speedy resolution of the tangle.
Rizvi, who claimed to be in touch with the Ayodhya cell at the Centre, told reporters that his talks with
various religious leaders including president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)-backed Ram
Janambhoomi Nyas Mahant Nritya Gopal Das and others had been very encouraging and all
were "keen" for an early settlement of the dispute at the local level.
Rizvi said the Muslim community wanted a Jama Masjid in Ayodhya in return for the demolished mosque
and added that since Babar was an invader, a memorial in his name was not acceptable to them.
He suggested that 40 acres of land including five acres of the Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya be
provided to the Muslim community
