Friday, October 31 2003 19:01 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern region, will organise a three-day Rural Networking Forum, a conference and exhibition to promote products of self-help groups (SHGs) and rural entrepreneurs.

The forum was being organised under CII's project named "Rural Net", an ongoing process where strategies would be developed to address the market linkage issues of products of rural non-farm sectors (RNFS), Pamela Anna Mathew, Chairperson of the project, told reporters in Chennai today (Oct 31).

She said RNFS, which generated maximum employment opportunities in the rural area was growing at the rate of over 25 per cent.

"The main problems facing this sector is lack of market linkages," she said, adding Rural Net initiative of CII was meant to address this very issue.

The project is being implemented in association with all the four state governments in the south and agencies like NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India).
