Poetess case: Amarmani Tripathi's bail plea rejected
Saturday, November 1 2003 19:48 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: A sessions court today (Nov 1) rejected the bail plea of Amarmani Tripathi, a former Uttar Pradesh minister and prime accused in the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case.

Special Judge K P Singh, after perusal of the case diary and DNA report of the foetus of the slain poetess, turned down the bail application of Tripathi.

The court observed that as others involved in the murder have not been arrested so far, there was apprehension that the prosecution evidences might be tampered with.

The DNA report, submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), had established that it matched with Tripathi, the court added.

The order was passed after hearing of arguments from defence counsel Mridul Rakesh, Vijay Vikram and Arun Sinha and R.K Saini, CBI's senior prosecuting officer.
