Fernandes rules out early Lok Sabha elections
Monday, November 3 2003 22:01 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor and Defence Minister George Fernandes today (November 3) ruled out early polls to Lok Sabha.

"There is no possibility of an early poll. Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has time and again stated that the election will be held only when scheduled," Fernandes told reporters after an hour-long discussion with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M Karunanidhi.

On the prospects of a Third Front in the national political scene, he said there was no possibility for it.

On the merger of Samata Party and Janata Dal – United (JD-U), he said it was only coming together of those who contested the 1998 polls under JD-U banner and flag.

"JD-U first suffered a vertical split and suffered a lot of other splits later. Now all the splinter groups are coming together," he said.
