Tuesday, November 4 2003 23:14 Hrs (IST)
Baghdad: Huge explosions rocked Central Baghdad late today (November 4) and smoke could be seen
rising close to the compound used as a headquarters of the US occupation.
Four large explosions could be heard at about 19:45 hours along the Tigris River. The smoke appeared
coming from the Northern end of the sprawling US compound near the al-Jamhuriya Bridge which
crosses the Tigris.
The US military command confirmed two impacts in the city center but did not say where.
It was the second straight night of heavy explosions in the centre of the Iraqi capital. About three mortars
impacted on the city late today. US authorities said at least one hit a US Army base but caused no
damage or casualties.
