Kumaratunga trying to create anarchy: Ranil

Colombo: Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (November 4) accused President
Chandrika Kumaratunga of trying to create "chaos and anarchy", hours after she prorogued Parliament,
fired three senior Ministers and deployed troops in several Government installations.
In a brief statement issued from Washington, Wickremesinghe said the President's unprecedented move
was aimed at sabotaging the bid to end separatist warring by Tamil Tiger rebels and at pushing the
country into a political crisis.
"I pledge to you the people, your Government will not allow this desperate and irresponsible attempt to
undermine the peace process and economic prosperity of the people to succeed," he said.
Wickremesinghe will meet President George W Bush tomorrow (Nov 5) for his second meeting with the
US President since July last year. His visit to the US capital is a bid to garner fresh support for the peace
bid and for increasing trade between the two countries.
