Washington: US President George W Bush has said that the US will "stay the course" in Iraq, and
although deposed Dictator Saddam Hussain is no longer a "menace", "We'll get him, we'll find
him."
As US forces increasingly come under attack in the occupied Arab nation, Bush said the "US was back
to fighting terrorists and bringing them to justice. These people, these terrorists want us to retreat, they
want us to leave, because they know that a free and peaceful Iraq in their midst will damage their cause.
And we will stay the course, we will
do our job."
When asked how the US can be sure that Saddam Hussain is no longer a menace, Bush replied, "Well,
he is no longer running a country. He's no longer torturing people. He's no longer developing mass
graves. He's no longer threatening people and he is no longer in power. We'll get him, we'll find
him."
Reiterating that the US was "committed" to help the Iraqis rebuild their society, he told reporters
travelling with him in California, that a peaceful and free Iraq is essential to the security of the United
States."
Asked whether the process of turning over Iraq to the Iraqis is being accelerated, Bush said "we have
now stood up over 70,000 Iraqi citizens to be police, border patrol and
beginnings of the military, so that Iraqis will be able to run their own country.
