2 killed, Mosque damaged in Pak shelling

Srinagar: Pakistani troops shelled civilian areas near the Line of Control (LoC) killing two women, injuring five others and damaging houses and a Mosque in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today (Nov 5).

The heavy shelling which began in Tanghdar, Karnah and Machhil sectors on November 4 afternoon continued throughout the night, they said.

35-year-old Mukhti Begum and 17-year-old Meema Bano were killed and Meema's mother Zoona Begum and one Ghulam Ahmad Mir critically injured in Chontiwari area of Macchil sector, the sources said.

Three civilians were injured in Karnah sector where three houses and a mosque were destroyed in the shelling.

Indian troops retaliated but intermittent shelling continued throughout the night.
