Satish Nambiar appointed to UN panel

United Nations: Lt Gen (retd) Satish Nambiar, who was first force commander for the United Nations Protection Force for Former Yugoslavia, is among 16 members of a panel appointed by the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan to examine major threats and challenges the world faces.

The panel will be headed by former Prime Minister of Thailand Anand Panyarachun and is expected to submit its report in about a year's time.

The members of the panel will meet shortly in New York to decide how to proceed with their work, sources in United Nations said on November 4.
