UK court reserves order on Quattrocchi's accounts
Wednesday, November 5 2003 19:50 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: A British court has reserved its order on the decision of the UK Government freezing two
bank accounts of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, wanted by India in the Rs 133 crore Bofors
payoff case.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources said today (Nov 5) that the judge heard the arguments in
the case and reserved its judgement.
The advocate appointed by the Crown Prosecutor General of Britain argued the case for CBI and
submitted relevant documents handed over by a two-member CBI team, which had gone there in
connection with the case.
The team comprising a CBI official and the agency's additional legal advisor had gone to London to help
the Crown Prosecutor's office.
The advocate argued that the money could not be released, as there was an immediate need to probe
its source following the CBI allegation that it was part of the payment that Quattrocchi had got from
Bofors.
The CBI had also briefed the prosecutor general on Quattrocchi's role in the Bofors payoff case and his
continuous attempt to evade appearance in the Indian court, the sources said.
