'TN won't get justice from BJP or Cong Govt at Centre'
Thursday, November 6 2003 16:01 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Only a non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), non-Congress Government at the Centre would render justice to Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) would work for formation of such a Government after the next Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa told the State Assembly today (Nov 6).

Coming down heavily on the BJP and Congress for "not rendering justice to Tamil Nadu" on the Cauvery issue, she said, "Parties like BJP, Congress and Janata Dal have political stakes in Karnataka and do not want to antagonise their vote bank in that state. That is why they are not helping Tamil Nadu in getting justice on the Cauvery issue. Only a non-Congress and non-BJP Government at the Centre will render justice to Tamil Nadu. We (AIADMK) will work towards that after the next Lok Sabha polls."

Jayalalithaa's remarks came when Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) member J Hemachandran said that the State Government had not taken any steps to get water in the Cauvery River from Karnataka.

Jayalalithaa said Left parties should cooperate with other parties in setting up of a non-Congress and non-BJP Government at the Centre.
