New Delhi: Expressing resentment over the allotment of tickets for the Assembly polls in Rajasthan,
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vishvendra Singh today (Nov 8) resigned his Lok Sabha
seat.
"I have sent my resignation as a member of Lok Sabha both to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and
Party President M Venkaiah Naidu, requesting them to forward it to Speaker Manohar Joshi," Singh told
reporters in New Delhi.
"I am firm on my decision and I will not withdraw it," he said in reply to a question.
"Tickets for the Rajasthan Assembly polls have been distributed without taking into consideration the
contributions of the party workers," he said.
Party sources, however, said that Singh, who represents Bharatpur constituency in Rajasthan, was
being persuaded to withdraw his resignation.
He said that he had no "personal grouse" against the State party president Vasundhara Raje but
was "not happy" with her style of functioning.
"Unless we remain united, we will not be able to win the polls," he said.
Singh said "even party workers who had been working for the organisation for the last 30 years were
being ignored and newcomers with no public support were being nominated.
"I cannot see injustice being done to party workers. Hence I have decided to resign as MP but I will stay
in the party."
