Unidentified men stop and search N Ram's car
Saturday, November 8 2003 22:51 Hrs (IST)
Bangalore: A group of unidentified persons tonight (Nov 8) stopped the car in which editor-in-chief of
English daily 'The Hindu' N Ram was travelling in Bangalore and searched the vehicle.
Bangalore city police commissioner S Mariswamy said four to five persons speaking in Tamil stopped the
car near a five star hotel and searched for "someone".
After they came to know that only Ram and N Murali, joint managing director of the daily were in the car,
they ran away he said, adding they did not cause any harm to the occupants.
The Tamil Nadu police are on the look out for five senior journalists of the daily after the State Assembly
yesterday (Nov 7) sentenced them to 15 days imprisonment for breach of privilege. A special team of
Chennai police arrived in Bangalore this morning in search of the journalists.
The commissioner, however, said it was not sure whether those who stopped Ram's car belonged to
Tamil Nadu police.
Ram was returning to the hotel after participating in a function organised as part of the 125th year
celebrations of the daily in the city.
Mariswamy said further investigation was on.
