Shillong: Border Security Force (BSF) authorities today (Nov 9) denied having received any report on
the smuggling of arms from North Eastern India to the neighbouring country from its Bangladesh
counterpart.
"At no point did the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) submit a report on the smuggling of small arms from North
East India to the neighbouring country during the recently concluded
Inspectors general border co-ordination meeting held at Shillong," a statement from the BSF frontier
said in Shillong.
In fact, both the sides expressed 'concern' over the 'nexus' between criminal gangs of either country and
resolved to counter the menace by sharing inputs and co-ordinated
efforts, additional DIG of the BSF' Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland frontier M N Sajjan said in
the statement.
Media reports here said during the BSF-BDR meet on October 22 last, the BDR team had submitted
a 'detailed report' on the smuggling of small arms from the North Eastern
Region to its country. The report also alleged that BSF was turning a 'blind eye' to the 'growing menace'
of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh.
Denying receiving any such report from its neighbouring counterpart, the statement further said 'on the
contrary' BSF had handed over a list of Indian insurgent camps in Bangaldesh to the BDR requesting
them to take action against the extremists.
