New Delhi: India and Switzerland will sign two agreements for co-operation in disaster management and
science and technology in New Delhi after talks between visiting Swiss President Pascal Couchepin and
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on a host of important bilateral, regional and international issues.
New Delhi is attaching special significance to the visit. The last Presidential visit from Switzerland was by
Flavio Cotti in 1998.
Couchepin will call on President A P J Abdul Kalam and also have meetings with Vice President Bhairon
Singh Shekhawat, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and External
Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha.
During the parleys, Couchepin may raise the issue of Swiss diplomat's rape last month in South
Delhi.
The 36-year old diplomat, heading the visa section in the Swiss Embassy, was leaving the Siri Fort
auditorium, the venue of the International Film Festival, after seeing a late night
show on October 14 when she was abducted by two youths and sexually assaulted, sending shock
waves in the capital.
Although Delhi Police has been claiming to have vital clues, the month-long investigations have not
made much progress in zeroing in on the rapists.
