Monday, November 10 2003 15:49 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: Top Hizbul Mujahideen militant Ishtiyaq Ali surrendered before police in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today (November 10).

Ali alias Saifullah, an area commander of the outfit, laid down his weapons, including one AK rifle, before police at Niyali village of the district yesterday (November 9), they said.

He also handed over five magazines, six grenades, one pistol, one wireless set, three UBGL grenades and one improvised explosive device (IED).

The sources said Ali's surrender comes close on the heels of that of 17 top Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) and TeJI militants in Poonch district and was a blow to Hizbul Mujahideen.
