AP headed for snap polls; TDP meet tomorrow
Wednesday, November 12 2003 12:25 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: The stage is set for snap polls in Andhra Pradesh with the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) convening a crucial meeting of its politburo tomorrow (November 13) to give a final shape to the resolution seeking a fresh mandate from people on "development versus naxal violence" plank.

After putting his party on the fast-forward mode, TDP supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has convened politburo meeting at his residence to discuss the finer points of the snap poll strategy.

The draft resolution will then be put before emergency general body meeting of the party later in the evening for adoption, party sources said.

Over 7,000 delegates, including MPs, MLAs, politburo and State executive committee members and district unit chiefs, will participate in the general body meeting to discuss the "prevailing political situation" in the State and at the end of deliberations adopt a resolution seeking early polls.

The meeting is also expected to adopt another resolution condemning naxalite attack on Naidu at Tirupati on October 1.

Armed with the party's endorsement of snap poll plan, the Cabinet would meet either on November 14 or 15 to adopt a resolution seeking dissolution of the Assembly, paving way for early elections.
