I can pull down Sayeed Govt any time: Omar
Wednesday, November 12 2003 21:51 Hrs (IST)

Jammu: National Conference president Omar Abdullah today (November 12) claimed he can pull down the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed-led coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir any time and was waiting for an appropriate time to do so.

Launching a scathing attack on the performance of the Sayeed Government, he said, "I can dislodge this Government any time. I will do it after the Government completely fails to realise its promise to bring peace in the State."

When the present Government came to power, Sayeed had claimed of having a formula in his kitty to solve the vexed Kashmir issue. But, till date he has not come out with the solution despite more than 70,000 people having been killed in the state so far, Omar alleged.

"How many more people should die? A lakh or two lakh before Mufti Sayeed dishes out his magic solution?" he asked.

Sayeed's silence was "intriguing" as the situation was worsening day by day and at least 10 innocent civilians were being killed daily, the NC chief said.

"If Sayeed has a solution for the Kashmir issue, then I have the capacity to dislodge this Government to overcome the problems and bring peace to the trouble-torn State. That will be done at an appropriate time," he said.

NC did not form the Government after the polls despite having the largest number of MLAs, with a view to allowing its detractors to form the Government as they have been accusing the party of misgovernance. "But a year has passed under the coalition rule, yet it has not fulfilled its promises made under Common Minimum Programme," he alleged.
