HC asks SIT Chief to submit Telgi report to CM
Wednesday, November 12 2003 14:24 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The Mumbai High Court today (November 12) directed Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief S S Puri to submit to the Chief Minister his report on the alleged role of Police Commissioner R S Sharma and other top officers in shielding prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam.

The direction was given by Chief Justice C K Thakker and Justice Abhay Oka, on a bunch of public interest litigations (PILs) filed by social activist Anna Hazare and others demanding action against guilty officers.

Advocate General Goolam Vahanvati placed the report of S S Puri before the court today and urged that the report should not be made public in view of the ongoing investigations. The court said that it could consider giving copies of this report to the respondents on the next date of the hearing, November 27.

As regards allegations against assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohammed Mulani and Inspector Prakash Deshmukh in shielding Telgi made by former Pune Additional CP S M Mushrif, the court directed the SIT to go into it and consider their arrest, if necessary.
