Cong says it's 'more than ready' for Andhra polls
Friday, November 14 2003 22:41 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Taking up the challenge thrown by N Chandrababu Naidu, Congress today (November 14) said it was "more than ready" for Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh to rid it of "bad" governance and indicated that it was not averse to tie-up with Left and TRS.

"We welcome the developments in Andhra Pradesh. We are more than ready for polls. We are eager to exploit the terrible sentiment developing against misrule of TDP (Telugu Desam Party)," party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.

At the same time, he dismissed as "false and perverse" the Chief Minister's assertion that the attitude of Opposition Congress forced him to dissolve the Assembly and seek a fresh mandate.

"Naidu has been running the Government for four-and-half years with two-third majority. What difficulty he has encountered now I am unable to understand," he said.

Soon after the dissolution, senior Congress leaders including Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and Ghulam Nabi Azad held intensive discussions with State party leaders, including Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president D Srinivas and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Y S Rajshekhar Reddy to formulate election strategy.
