Indian Express correspondent's house attacked
Monday, November 17 2003 11:34 Hrs (IST)

Raipur: Unidentified persons today (Nov 16) attacked the house of the special correspondent of 'Indian Express' newspaper, which published video clips purportedly showing Union Minister and Chhattisgarh's senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Singh Judeo allegedly accepting bribe.

A group of people gathered in front of the house of scribe Ashwani Sharma this evening and raised slogans against the newspaper, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and threw stones, potatoes and eggs, Sharma said.

However, when police arrived on being informed by him, the protestors ran away, he said.

Later, a group of youths went to the local office of Sahara Samaya channel which showed the video clips and shouted slogans but left the place on being resisted by the staff of the channel, Sahara journalist Amitabh Tiwari claimed.

Police are inquiring into the incidents and no one has been arrested so far.

Jogi condemned the attack on the house of 'Indian Express' journalist and also on the office of the TV channel alleging "it reflected the Godse mentality of the BJP and their fascist attitude".

"I assure the entire media that they will be given full protection by my Government," the Chief Minister said.

Raipur Press Club president Prakash Sharma strongly condemned the attack on the scribe's house and urged Chief Minister Ajit Jogi to take prompt action against the attackers.
