Raipur: The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chattisgarh today (Nov 19) promised to enact
laws for the banning of religious conversions and cow slaughter if it was voted to power after the
December 1 Assembly elections in the State.
These promises were contained in the party's manifesto for the elections that was released at a press
conference at party headquarters in Raipur by its national president M Venkaiah Naidu.
The manifesto also talked of introducing an 'Atal Awas Yojana' to give houses to slum dwellers and
provide food for just Rs five to the poor.
Under the 'Atal Awas Yojana', houses would be given to slum dwellers by paying Rs 10 per day and
when the money invested was realised, these would be handed over to the owners.
The manifesto also promised to give free bicycles to all tribal girls going to high school and assured that
salt would be made available to tribals at 25 paise per kg.
State BJP president Dr Raman Singh said 1,500 "dal bhaat" centres would be set up all over the State to
provide meals to the poor at a cost of Rs five to free them from hunger.
