Mumbai: Actress Kiron Kher, who has won the best actress award at Cape Town World Cinema Festival
this week for her sterling performance in the film 'Khamosh Pani', said she was "filled with a sense of
achievement".
"It feels wonderful on bagging yet another international award. I am filled with a sense of achievement. I
had never expected the first one and the second award has left me overwhelmed," the actress, who
earlier bagged an award at Locarnao film festival in Switzerland for the film, said.
The award was announced on November 16 at Cape Town and the film is scheduled to be screened at
the International Film Festival beginning in Mumbai tomorrow.
"It is great that both my family and friends will be able to watch the film," she said.
"The film has a wonderful screenplay. It addresses the fact that women do not have many choices. The
decisions are made by the men in their life, be it their brothers, sons, husbands or others in the family.
However, given a choice, they quietly make decisions," she said.
"The film talks about the anti-fundamentalist sentiment from the subcontinent and voices their concern. It
is a human story and a film that is watchable," she said.
"The film is simple and has been appreciated because we have chosen to examine our own
shortcomings. It is like when you have the guts to laugh at yourself, people are with you, however, when
you constantly laugh at others, people tire out soon," she added.
Directed by Pakistani Helmer Sabiha Suma, the film has been scripted by filmmaker Paromita Mehra of
Mumbai.
